The City of Albany has announced the establishment of a new Sporting Walk of Fame at Centennial Park, creating a lasting legacy as part of Albany’s 2026 commemorations.
The initiative recognises outstanding local athletes, coaches and officials who have made significant contributions to sport at the highest levels, celebrating those who have achieved state, national and international success, including representing Australia.
Sport has played a central role in Albany’s identity for more than 200 years, bringing people together across generations and fostering a strong sense of pride and connection within the community.
Each inductee will be recognised with a sign along the walk, featuring a QR code that links to an interactive story map showcasing their achievements and connection to Albany. Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks said the project will shine a light on the people and stories that have shaped Albany’s rich sporting history.
“The Sporting Walk of Fame is a powerful way to recognise the incredible talent that has come from our community and the dedication behind those achievements,” Mayor Stocks said.
“Sport is deeply woven into Albany’s story, and this project will celebrate not only the athletes who have reached the highest levels, but also the support they have received along the way.
“Importantly, it will also inspire future generations by showcasing local role models and the pathways available right here in Albany.”
The Walk of Fame will serve as a visible and enduring tribute to Albany’s sporting excellence, providing a place for the community to reflect on past achievements while looking ahead to the future.
Nominations are now open for eligible athletes, coaches and officials who have reached the highest levels of their sport and completed a substantial portion of their development within the City of Albany.
Athletes must be retired from elite or professional competition for at least two years at the time of nomination.
The Sporting Walk of Fame is a key legacy project of Albany 2026, reinforcing the City’s commitment to celebrating its history while investing in its future.
